DHAKA, Nov 20, 2025 (BSS) – Nurunnahar Firoza Khanam, mother of Mahfuza Jasmine, news editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), passed away in a city hospital last night at the age 97.

Nurunnahar Firoza Khanam was suffering from various old-age complications, family source said.

She is survived by six sons, three daughters and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn her death.

Namaz-e-janaza of the deceased was held at 10 am today at the premises of Tepra Baitul Ala Jame Mosque at Shibalaya upazila in her Manikganj home district.

She was laid to eternal rest at Paikpara graveyard beside her late husband Moulana AKM Saiful Islam Khan in the upazila.

Nurunnahar Firoza Khanam, a primary school teacher and an ardent follower of Begum Rokeya, worked for the expansion of girls’ education and established first primary school for girls at Chargobindapur under Charkatari union of Daulatpur upazila.

She received the “Sufen Ratnagarva Ma Award” in 2015 and was honoured with the Begum Rokeya Award by the Bangladesh Shikkha Parjobekshok Society in 2019. She authored an autobiography “Amar Swopno, Amar Songram” and it was published in 2015.
