President Ziaur Rahman’s contribution to country's sports unforgettable: Tuku

TANGAIL, Nov 20, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku today said Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman  had played outstanding contribution to the sport areana as he  was a sports enthusiast.

“Apart from politics, his contribution to the arena of sports of Bangladesh was unforgettable. As part the continuity, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia took the sports field to unique heights. During her rule, there was a huge improvement in sports,” he said here.  

 In the future, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will take the sports arena to higher heights,” he hoped. 

He made these remarks while addressing the trophy unveiling and inauguration ceremony of the Shaheed Zia T-20 Cricket Tournament organized by the Tangail United Cricketers Alliance at the Shaheed Maruf Stadium here.

Tuku said there is no alternative to sports in building a healthy society free from drugs. Therefore, the standard of sports should be increased at the district level and then more talented players will emerge from the district level, he added. 

He sought everyone's overall cooperation in establishing Tangail as a modern district free from terrorism and drugs in the future.

Former member secretary of the district BNP Mahmudul Haque Sanu presided over the inaugural ceremony, while former general secretary of the district sports organization Advocate Ali Imam Tapan, district sports officer Rafiqul Islam and director of Tangail United Cricketer Alliance Abu Nasir Manik spoke at the event. 

A total of 12 teams are participating in the tournament.
