
DHAKA, Nov 21, 2025 (BSS) - At least four people were died and over a hundred others injured as of 6:15 pm after an earthquake struck the area between Sadar and Palash upazilas of Narsingdi district at 10:38 am today.
The Chief Adviser's Press Wing disclosed the matter in a press release tonight.
According to preliminary reports, many of the injuries occurred as residents rushed down multi-storey buildings in panic during the tremor. District authorities confirmed that four fatalities have been recorded so far.
In Sadar upazila's Chinishpur union, four people were hurt when construction materials fell from an under-construction building at Gabtoli. Two of them were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Among them, eight-year-old Hafez Omar died after arrival at DMCH, while his father Delwar Hossain Uzzal remains under treatment.
In Malita West Para village of Char Sindur union under Palash upazila, 75-year-old Kaziem Ali Bhuiya died after being trapped under the collapse of his earthen house. He was pronounced dead on the way to the district hospital.
Another victim, Nasir Uddin, 60, of Islampara Nayapara village in Danga union, died after falling from a roadside elevated spot while fleeing his cropland during the tremor. Local residents said he died instantly.
In Shibpur upazila's Joynagar union, Forkan, around 40, from Gajkitla (Purba Para) fell from a tree during the quake. He was taken to Narsingdi District Hospital and later referred to DMCH, but died en route.
The press release also reported infrastructure and industrial damage.
A fire broke out at the Ghorashal Thermal Power Centre substation after the quake, though fire service units later brought it under control. Several production transformers were damaged due to the tremor.
Urea production at the Ghorashal Palash Fertilizer Factory was temporarily halted after machinery shut down automatically. Technical teams are currently inspecting the site.
More than a hundred structures, including buildings of the Deputy Commissioner's Office and the Circuit House, have developed cracks.
The district administration has opened a control room to monitor the situation and coordinate disaster-response efforts.
