Two active members of banned BCL held in city

DHAKA, Dec 1, 2025 (BSS) - The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested two active members of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) during a raid in the Shahbagh area of the capital.

The detainees have been identified as Md. Shakil Hawlader (24), president of the Nilkamal Union branch of Chhatra League under Char Fashion Police Station in Bhola district and Md. Imran Shahriar (26), general secretary of the Sheikh Russell National Shishu Kishore Parishad of Bhola district and former joint general secretary of the Nilkamal Union Chhatra League.

According to CTTC officials, a team from the Special Action Group conducted the operation around 6:30 pm on Monday near Dhaka Medical College under Shahbagh Police Station following a secret tip-off, leading to the capture of the two men.

Authorities said Shakil had taken part in protest marches in front of the Agargaon Passport Office and in Dhanmondi 27, while Imran had participated in a protest gathering in Dhanmondi 27 and another demonstration at the court premises.

CTTC officials confirmed that legal proceedings against the arrestees are currently underway.
