Travel ban imposed on ex-DMP official Biplob, family members

DHAKA, Dec 09, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today imposed a travel ban on former joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Biplob Kumar Sarker and his wife Hosne Ara Begum, his brother Pranay Kumar Sarker and Hosne Ara's sister Shahnara Begum.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court's vacation bench judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The petition stated that an investigation officer has been appointed to probe allegations that Biplob Kumar Sarker and others, while serving as public officials, committed offences under the Money Laundering Prevention Act by depositing Taka 30 crore and withdrawing Taka 30 crore through 341 bank accounts held in their own names and in the names of persons connected to their interests. 

They also allegedly acquired properties in their own and proxy names, beyond their known sources of income.

According to reliable sources cited in the petition, Biplob Kumar Sarker and other individuals involved in the allegations were attempting to leave the country. 

Therefore, in the interest of a fair and proper inquiry, it is necessary to restrain their foreign travel, the petition added.
