
KHULNA, March 10, 2026 (BSS) - Members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard today arrested an active member of the notorious dacoit group known as Dayal Bahini along with arms and ammunition from the Sundarbans.
The arrested person was identified as Abdul Halim, 36.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information this afternoon.
He said the Coast Guard received intelligence that a member of the infamous dacoit gang Dayal Bahini would enter the Sundarbans to supply logistics to the group.
Based on the information, members of Coast Guard Base Mongla and Outpost Nolian conducted a special drive around 10:00 am in the Shibsa River area under Dakop Police Station.
During the operation, the Coast Guard detained Abdul Halim, who had long been involved in supplying arms, ammunition and other logistics to the notorious dacoit gang operating in the Sundarbans.
Later, based on information provided by the detainee, another raid was conducted around 1:00 pm in the Takaltola canal adjacent area under Dakop Police Station. During the raid, the Coast Guard recovered one single-barrel gun and four rounds of fresh cartridges.
Legal action against the detained person and the seized items is currently under process.
The Coast Guard also warned that their operations will continue to keep the Sundarbans free from pirates and dacoits.
According to the Coast Guard official, Halim is a resident of Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira district and had long been assisting the dacoit gang by supplying arms and logistics as well as taking part in robbery activities in the Sundarbans.
