DHAKA, Dec 23, 2025 (BSS) - Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Bangladesh has secured four seats under the electoral understanding reached within the BNP-led alliance.

The party had demanded five seats, while the BNP initially agreed to allocate three. Later, following a recommendation from the party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman, one additional seat was added, raising the total to four.

The candidates announced for Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam are: Maulana Ubaidullah Faruque for Sylhet-5; Maulana Manzurul Afendi for Nilphamari-1; Mufti Munir Hossain Kasemi for Narayanganj-4; and Maulana Junaid Al Habib for Brahmanbaria-2.

The BNP secretary general made the announcement at a press conference held at the BNP chairperson's office in Gulshan this morning.

Although Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam has secured four seats under the alliance's seat-sharing arrangement, its candidates will contest the election using the party's own electoral symbol, the 'Date Tree' (Khejur Gach).

At the press conference, Mirza Fakhrul said, "The party's decision is unchangeable. Action will be taken against anyone who opposes it."

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed said, "An electoral understanding has been reached with Jamiat Ulema-e Islam. There will be no BNP candidates in the constituencies where Jamiat's candidates have been announced."

Jamiat Ulema-e Islam President Ubaidullah Faruque said, "The BNP is the most trustworthy party for the welfare of the country. The eight-party alliance lacks experience in running the state. The BNP has been in power three times, and I believe the BNP will come to power."
