River police arrest 264 along with illegal nets, fish

DHAKA, Dec 24, 2025 (BSS) – River police arrested 264 people and seized banned nets, fish, fish fry, and jellied shrimp over the past six days during nationwide operations.

According to a press release, a total of 2.35 crore metres of illegal nets, 2,645 kg of fish, 5,700 pieces of Bagda Renu fry, 700 kg of Pangas fish fry, and 145 kg of jellied shrimp were seized during the operation.

Prosecution was filed against 95 bulkheads in the River Court, and four dredgers were seized, it added.

The seized nets and jellied shrimp were destroyed. The fry of the recovered fish were released into the water, and the remaining fish were distributed to orphanages, the release said.
