Six remanded over Keraniganj madrasa blast

DHAKA, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today placed six people arrested in connection with a devastating blast at a madrasa in South Keraniganj on different terms of remand.

The remanded accused are Shahin alias Abu Bakkar, Aminur alias Dorji Amin, Shafian Rahman Fakir, Asia Begum, Yasmin Akter and Asmani Khatun.

Of them, Shahin, Aminur and Shafian were placed on seven-day remand each, while Asia, Yasmin and Asmani were placed on three-day remand each.

Dhaka Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman passed the order as police produced the accused before the court, seeking a 10-day remand for the male accused and a five-day remand for each of the female accused.

The blast occurred at Ummal Qura International Madrasa in the Hasnabad area under South Keraniganj Police Station on December 26, tearing down the one-storey building almost completely. Police recovered cocktails and other explosive materials from the site.

Police today filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act in this connection.
