DHAKA, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has allocated land to 25 women entrepreneurs to establish nurseries, aiming to conserve the city’s environment, expand urban greenery, and promote economic empowerment.
Each entrepreneur has been allowed to use a temporary space of 200 square feet.
DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz handed over the allocation letters to the women entrepreneurs at a ceremony held at the DNCC Nagar Bhaban this afternoon.
DNCC Chief Estate Officer Mohammad Shawkat Osman chaired the event.
Mohammad Azaz said, “We are initially providing this facility to 25 women entrepreneurs, but gradually we will allocate space to 100 women entrepreneurs to do business.”
He said, “Dhaka is facing a severe shortage of open and green spaces. Unplanned urbanization and the filling up of water bodies and canals have put the city at environmental risk. To reduce health hazards for citizens and build a liveable Dhaka, it is essential to bring greenery back into the city.”
The administrator said more greening initiatives will be introduced in phases through ward-based strategic planning.
At the event, beneficiary woman entrepreneur Sonia Haque said earlier they often had to shift their businesses due to lack of designated spaces in the city.
Now, with a fixed place, they will be able to run their businesses permanently, she said adding that this will help sustain their businesses while creating a greener urban environment and reducing pollution.
