DHAKA, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid today said the sacrifice and steadfastness of youths are the main force for change.
She made the remarks while speaking at the second convocation 2025 of Sonargaon University held at the International Convention City Bashundhara here.
Dedicating her speech to the memory of Sharif Osman Hadi, the adviser said Hadi was a great hero of the 2024 mass uprising.
"I also dedicate it to two warriors of Sonargaon University, 11 women, who laid down their lives in the uprising," she said.
Noting that their heroism and sacrifice have given them a second chance to rebuild the country, Sharmeen said, "The sacrifice and steadfastness of the youth are the main force in changing these values of looking at the people and the country around us with responsibility."
She said both men and women must move forward equally in society. "We all have to work together to build a democratic society," the adviser said.
Addressing the graduates, she said, "Today, many of you are presenting yourselves as graduates for the first time. This identity inevitably carries with it the expectation of responsibility, values, and leadership."
The adviser asked them to come forward towards preventing violence against women in the society, taking a strong stand for truth and justice, and standing by the weak and marginalised people.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Bangladesh Accreditation Council Chairman Professor Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed and Chairman of Sonargaon University's Board of Trustees Abdul Aziz also spoke, among others.
