DHAKA, Jan 07, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today imposed a travel ban on former mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Atiqul Islam, his wife Shaila Shagufta Islam, and daughter Bushra Afrin over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a plea filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The application stated that an investigation is currently underway against Atiqul Islam and others on allegations of abuse of power and irregularities in the tender process, leading to the misuse of public funds through the procurement of mosquito larvicide spraying machines, along with charges of corruption and money laundering.

During the investigation, it was learned that Atiqul Islam and his family members own assets disproportionate to their known sources of income in various parts of the country, as well as abroad, including in Canada, the United States and other countries.

It was further revealed that Atiqul Islam and his family members are attempting to flee the country and transfer their movable and immovable assets. If they manage to leave the country, there is a strong possibility that the investigation process will be hampered, the plea added.
