Former NCP central leader joins BNP

DHAKA, Jan 7, 2026 (BSS) – Former Joint General Secretary of the National Citizen’s Party (NCP) and Chief Coordinator of Chattogram Metropolis, Mir Arshadul Haque, today joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

He received the party’s preliminary membership from BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir this afternoon after meeting BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman at the Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan.

BNP Treasurer M. Rashiduzzaman Millat and party Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan were present on the occasion.

Earlier, Mir Arshadul Haque announced his resignation from the NCP. On the morning of December 25, he said in a Facebook post that he was withdrawing from all responsibilities and positions within the party and would not contest the election as the NCP candidate in the Chattogram-16 (Banshkhali) constituency.

Mir Arshadul Haque previously served as the party’s Central Joint Member Secretary, a member of its Executive Council, Media Cell and Discipline Committee. He also headed the Environment Cell and served as the Chief Coordinator of Chattogram Metropolis.
