DHAKA, Jan 8, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on all types of meetings, rallies, mass gatherings, processions, human chains and sit-in programs in several key areas around the Supreme Court (SC) and the official residence of the Chief Justice (CJ) for the interest of maintaining law and order.

According to a public notice, the restriction has been enforced under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/1976) and will come into effect from Saturday until further order.

The ban also covers areas in front of Justice Bhaban, Judges Complex, and the main gate of the Supreme Court, Mazar Gate, Jame Masjid Gate, the entrance gates of International Crimes Tribunal-1 and tribunal-2, and the Judicial Administration Training Institute building.

The notice states that the measures were taken in the interest of ensuring public safety and smooth movement in the high-security judicial zone.

The DMP has urged all concerned not to disrupt traffic by blocking roads in the name of protests or various demands, warning that such activities cause public inconvenience and hamper law and order.
