
DHAKA, Jan 9, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 171 suspected criminals were arrested across the country in joint operations conducted by the Bangladesh Army and other law enforcement agencies over the past week to maintain law and order.
According to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Bangladesh Army has been performing its duties with utmost professionalism, discipline and dedication amid the ongoing law and order situation in the country.
As part of these efforts, joint operations were carried out from January 1 to January 8 by units under various infantry divisions and independent brigades, in coordination with other security forces, in different parts of the country including the capital.
Those arrested include alleged terrorists, drug dealers, drug addicts, robbers, juvenile gang members and smugglers.
During the operations, security forces recovered 20 illegal firearms, 149 rounds of various types of ammunition, 10 cocktails, sharp weapons and narcotics.
The detainees have been handed over to the respective police stations for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
The ISPR also stated that the Bangladesh Army is continuing regular patrols and security operations in different regions to ensure public safety.
In addition, the army is playing an active role in controlling workers' unrest in industrial areas.
The army reaffirmed that such operations will continue in the interest of maintaining overall law and order across the country.
The people have been urged to report any suspicious or unusual activities to the nearest army camp.
