Court orders seizure of tax documents of ex-MPs Azam, Kiron, 3 others

DHAKA, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today ordered the seizure of income tax records of five individuals, including former lawmaker Ali Azam of Bhola-2 and former lawmaker Md Mamunur Rashid Kiron of Noakhali-3 constituency.

The other three accused are Jasmine Akter, wife of Md Mamunur Rashid Kiron, Safiullah Al Monir, former vice-president of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation, and former superintendant engineer of Rajuk Sultana Meherunnesa Khan.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the orders, allowing five separate applications filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the applications filed against the first four, for the sake of a proper investigation into allegations of possession of wealth disproportionate to known sources of income, it is essential to seize the permanent and miscellaneous portions of the accused persons’ income tax files, along with other relevant records and information.

The ACC in its plea filed against Sultana Meherunnesa Khan, said  it has filed a case against her for acquiring and possessing assets worth Taka 31.87 lakh beyond her known sources of income and for submitting false and baseless declarations in her wealth statement.

The investigation into the case is currently underway, and the investigation report is expected to be submitted shortly.

The application further stated that, in order to verify the accuracy of the accused’s income and expenditure and to examine whether she owns any other assets, it is essential to seize and review the income tax records registered in her name.
