
KHULNA, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS) - Additional Divisional Commissioner of Khulna,
Muhammad Asadul Haque, on Monday underscored the importance of objectivity
and brevity in news reporting, particularly during the election period.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of a two-day
training workshop on election-time journalism organized by the Press
Institute of Bangladesh at the Khulna Circuit House.
He said journalists should avoid unnecessary analysis and excessive wording,
presenting information clearly and concisely so that facts remain transparent
and confusion is minimized.
"The role of journalists is vital in raising public awareness and encouraging
voters to choose the right candidates," he said, adding that courageous
reporting on injustice, corruption, irregularities and oppression helps the
administration take effective action.
The workshop featured resource persons Sultan Mahmud Badal, Deputy Editor of
the Daily Amar Desh, freelance journalist Ziaur Rahman, and journalist and
teacher Nazia Afrin Monami of ULAB.
The programme, moderated by Sanowar Shahin of PIB, was also addressed by
Enamul Haque, Convener of the Khulna Press Club, Rafiqul Islam Tutul, its
Member Secretary, Mohammad Rashidul Islam, President of Metropolitan
Journalists' Union, Khulna, and its General Secretary Abdur Razzak Rana.
A total of 50 journalists from print, electronic and online media
participated in the workshop held at the Circuit House conference room, while
another 45 journalists from nine upazilas of the district attended a separate
session at the Humayun Kabir Balu Auditorium of Khulna Press Club.
Later, the chief guest distributed certificates among the participating
journalists.
