EC keeps Cumilla-3 BNP candidate Kaikobad's candidacy valid

DHAKA, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) today decided to keep the candidacy of BNP nominee Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad for the Cumilla-3 constituency valid.

The decision came after the EC rejected an appeal challenging the legality of his nomination.

The appeal was filed by Jamaat-e-Islami candidate M Yousuf Sohel, who alleged that Kaikobad held dual citizenship.

Although the hearing on the appeal was completed at the EC on Sunday, the decision regarding BNP candidate Kaikobad had been kept pending. On Monday, the commission announced its decision, rejecting the appeal and upholding Kaikobad's candidature.
