DHAKA, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today urged citizens to vote 'yes' in the upcoming referendum, saying it is an opportunity to honour the July martyrs who sacrificed their lives for change.
"We have a chance to realise the sacrifices of our people. Regardless of party affiliation, we must seize this opportunity to vote 'yes' in the referendum scheduled for February 12," she said.
Rizwana, also the Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Water Resources Adviser, made the remarks after a rally for voter motivation held in front of Rangpur Shilpakala Academy.
The colorful rally began at the Rangpur Deputy Commissioner's office and concluded at the Shilpakala Academy, with voter campaign vehicles moving along the route promoting the referendum and election participation.
Rizwana said that voting 'yes' would lead to twelve significant reforms, including making the judiciary independent, freeing administration from party influence, ensuring the installation of a caretaker government, and safeguarding citizens' rights.
"There is no reason to say 'no' to these changes," she added.
She further noted that a 'yes' vote would restore political balance, prevent forced or rigged elections, and promote democratic practices within political parties. Emphasising the role of the president as the guardian of the country, Rizwana said the office must act for the nation's interests, regardless of party affiliation, to maintain balance of power.
The rally was attended by the Rangpur Divisional Commissioner, Divisional Police Commissioner, media workers and officials from various government departments.
