DHAKA, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - Adviser to the BNP Chairman and Chief Coordinator of the election campaign committee for Dhaka-17 constituency Abdus Salam today stressed the need for extensive and united election campaigning ahead of the upcoming polls.

"The formal election campaign begins tomorrow (Thursday). The campaign must be carried out extensively. Everyone must work together to ensure the victory of the sheaf of paddy (Dhaner Shish)," Salam said.

He made the remarks while addressing a preparatory meeting held at the main office of the BNP's Dhaka-17 Constituency in Banani, aimed at ensuring the success of a public meeting scheduled for January 23.

Abdus Salam said the venue of the January 23 public meeting would be announced in due course. He urged party leaders and activists to reach out to voters at the grassroots level, inform them about the program and encourage their participation. He also called for discipline during the event, saying that attendees should listen attentively and quietly while party leaders deliver their speeches.

Addressing voters, Salam cautioned against vote-buying and corrupt practices. "No one votes by taking bribes, nor should they. If anyone offers you a bribe, take it and inform us. Otherwise, inform the army. It is our responsibility to hand such individuals over to the law," he said, urging vigilance against any malicious attempts to influence the election.

He further called on party leaders and activists to maintain strict party discipline and conduct all election activities peacefully and in an orderly manner.

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to contest the upcoming election from the Dhaka-17 constituency.
