THAKURGAON, Jan 22, 2026 (BSS) - Election campaign in favour of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir began today in the Thakurgaon-1 (Sadar) constituency ahead of the upcoming 13th national election.

Thakurgaon District BNP President and Mirza Fakhrul’s younger brother Mirza Faisal Amin inaugurated the campaign around 12 noon on the premises of Riverview High School in the district town.

Accompanied by party leaders and activists, well-wishers, and his friends from the 1979 batch of Thakurgaon Government Boys’ High School, Faisal Amin went door to door seeking votes and prayers from the general public in favor of the Sheaf of Paddy symbol.

Speaking to journalists during the campaign, he said, “There is no alternative to the BNP to restore democracy in the country, ensure people’s voting rights, and build an autocracy-free Bangladesh.”

“Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is a proven, courageous, and dedicated leader. We firmly believe that the people of the Thakurgaon-1 constituency will cast their votes for the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ and deliver a verdict in favor of democracy,” Faisal Amin said.

He urged other political parties and the general public to remain aware of and comply with the code of conduct.

Responding to a question from journalists about whether there are any challenges or concerns regarding the election, he said, “At present, we do not see any major challenges in the election. At one time, a conspiratorial group tried to derail the election and they are still involved in various conspiracies."

"However, the mass people of the country have spontaneously accepted the election. We want a peaceful, fair, and proper election to be held on time.”

Speaking about the role of the administration, Mirza Faisal Amin said, “So far, the administration has been playing a neutral role. We expect that they will maintain this neutrality in the future as well.”

District BNP leaders said mass contact and campaign activities started today in various unions and wards of Thakurgaon’s three constituencies and will be further intensified gradually.
