
DHAKA, Jan 22, 2026 (BSS)- BNP Chairperson's Adviser and Chief Coordinator of the Election campaign Committee of Dhaka-17 constituency Abdus Salam has called for creating massive public support in favour of the party's nominated candidate for Dhaka-17 constituency Tarique Rahman.
He also urged the people to cast their votes for the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol to restore democracy and establish people's voting rights.
“The people, through their votes in this election, will determine who will be responsible for running the country in the days to come,” he said in a brief rally before commencing the election campaign for Dhaka-17 constituency in Mohakhali in the capital .
He said, "Democracy has not yet fully returned to the country, the crisis has not been resolved. One or two parties are still conspiring to prevent the election from conducting free and fair manner.”
"We want to clearly state that BNP is a democratic party. We believe in democracy. In future, democracy will return to this country, and the people will decide who will run this nation,” he added.
Addressing businessmen and individuals from all walks of life in the area, Abdus Salam urged, "On the February 12, you will go to the polling centres and vote for Tarique Rahman for the Sheaf of Paddy symbol, so that through this vote, democracy and people's fundamental rights are restored in the country."
Referring to campaign activities, he said BNP will conduct its campaign following the rules set by the Election Commission and will not create any disorder. He claimed that the conscious people of the country are now ready to cast their votes in favour of BNP and the Sheaf of Paddy.
He called upon the leaders and activists of the Jatiyatabadi Chatro Dal, Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, and Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal to participate in processions in an orderly manner and to distribute leaflets to the public, appealing for votes for the Sheaf of Paddy.
BNP Chairperson's Advisers Farhad Halim Donar and Nazim Uddin Alam, Central Secretary Agriculturist Shamimur Rahman Shamim, Chatro Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, Mahila Dal leader Sultana, among other leaders and activists were present at the event.
