JASHORE, Jan 23, 2026 (BSS) - Anindya Islam Amit, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate for Jessore-3 constituency, has declared that his party advocates "Yes" vote in the upcoming referendum regarding the July Charter.

In an exclusive interview with the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Amit, who serves as the BNP Acting Organizing Secretary for the Khulna Division, emphasized that their party has consistently supported reform.

He noted that the party's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, had previously provided clear directives on reforms through his 31-point outline in 2023.

The Jessore-3 seat, comprising the entire Sadar Upazila (excluding Basundia Union), is considered the most significant of the district's six constituencies as it controls the politics of the district headquarters.

While five candidates have been validated to run in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, locals predict the main contest will be between the BNP nominee and Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Abdul Kader.

Amit also faces competition from candidates representing the Jatiya Party, the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), and the Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (JAGPA).

However, Amit has reportedly captured voter attention through his history of street activism during difficult political times, having faced over 50 lawsuits and multiple imprisonments while strengthening the party's organization in the Khulna region.

Amit brings a significant political legacy to the race as the son of Tariqul Islam, a former Standing Committee member and multi-term minister.

Known for his polite demeanor and popularity among the youth, Amit outlined specific promises for the constituency.

His key pledges include establishing a long-awaited 500-bed Medical College Hospital and upgrading the Jessore General Hospital's coronary care unit to a full-fledged facility to prevent patient deaths during transit to Dhaka or Khulna; and creating a safe city free from terror, drugs, and teen gangs.

He also expressed his promise promoting a politics of harmony, amity, and coexistence.

Regarding election conduct, Amit stated that he is actively counseling his supporters to strictly adhere to the Election Commission's code of conduct.

He expressed hope that the interim government would ensure a level playing field and a terror-free environment, noting that the people of Bangladesh have waited 18 years for a fair opportunity to exercise their voting rights.
