DHAKA, Jan 23, 2026 (BSS)—Despite a fabulous performance from Bangladesh leg pinner Rishad Hossain, Hobart Hurricanes failed to make it to the Big Bash League (BBL) final after suffering a 57-run defeat to Sydney Sixers at Sydney Cricket Ground today.

Sydney Sixers, however, will take on Perth Scorchers in the final of BBL on Sunday.

Rishad ended with a figure of 2-33, giving the side two crucial breakthroughs in the crunch moment but the other bowlers’ tendency to leak runs allowed Sydney to put up a daunting 198-8.

Steven Smith was the top-scorer for Sydney with 43 ball-65. His innings gave Sydney a high flying, appearing to take the side past at least 200 plus total.

Rishad, however, ended Smith’s aggression during the power-surge, claiming his wicket while he also got rid of hard-hitter Moises Henriques, effectively ruining Sydney to surge in the two overs of power-surge.

But that mattered little as other Sydney batters scored freely against the other bowlers to edge the side closer to 200.

A mediocre batting performance from the Hobart batters saw them bowled out for just 141 in 17.2 overs. Skipper Ben McDermott was the top-scorer for the side with 26 ball-40. Rishad made 8 ball-11 with a six with the willow.

With the defeat, Rishad’s maiden Big Bash journey came to an end. He bowed out the tournament with 15 wickets from 12 matches, the highest by a spinner in the Big Bash this season.
