Zakir Hossain promises tourism hub, airport, public univ in Bagerhat-2 constituency

BAGERHAT, Jan 23, 2026 (BSS) - BNP candidate for Bagerhat-2 (Sadar-Kachua) constituency Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain has announced a series of development plans aimed at transforming the area into a modern and prosperous township.

Addressing a large election rally at the Khanjahan Ali Dargah ground in Bagerhat Sadar on Thursday, he said a modern tourist zone would be developed centering on the holy shrine of Hazrat Khanjahan Ali (RA). He also pledged to establish the Khanjahan Ali Airport, enabling pilgrims from the region to travel directly by air to perform Hajj.

In addition, Zakir Hossain announced plans to establish a public university in the area to improve the overall quality of higher education.

The rally was presided over by Bagerhat District BNP Convener Engineer ATM Akram Hossain Talim.

Zakir Hossain declared that there would be zero tolerance for terrorism, extortion and illegal occupation in the sacred land of Khanjahan Ali. "Whether it is my brother, my son, or any leader or activist of the party at any level, no one will be spared if they engage in injustice," he said.

Regarding the health sector, he said the Bagerhat 250-bed hospital would be modernized to ensure improved medical services. He also announced plans to upgrade the Marine Academy into a BSc Marine Academy to further enhance educational opportunities in the region.

Addressing members of the minority community, he assured them of safety and harmony, saying, "You will live peacefully in this area-this is my commitment."

BNP National Executive Committee member and former MP Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Advocate Sheikh Wahiduzzaman Dwipu, District BNP Member Secretary Mozaffar Rahman Alam, Joint Convener Shamsher Ali Mohan, Khadem Niyamul Nasir Alap and other BNP leaders also addressed the rally.

A large number of BNP leaders and activists from district, upazila and union levels, along with members of affiliated organizations, were present at the event.
