DHAKA, Jan 23, 2026 (BSS) — Mirza Abbas, a Standing Committee member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), today raised concerns that the youth are being led astray due to a critical lack of adequate playgrounds.

Speaking to journalists after a friendly football match at the Arambagh Balumath in the capital, Abbas highlighted the social consequences of shrinking recreational spaces.

He stated that because there are insufficient opportunities for sports, young people are increasingly becoming addicted to drugs and social media.

Addressing his plans for the constituency, Abbas emphasized that he does not wish to make unrealistic promises, a common practice among candidates during election seasons.

Identifying himself as a "son of the area," he pledged to prioritize the intellectual development of the youth and take concrete initiatives to recover occupied playgrounds.

Abbas alleged that playgrounds he had constructed in the past were subsequently seizplay ground autocratic government.

He vowed that, if elected, he would recover these lands to restore a proper environment for sports.

Before the match, he performed Jummah prayers at the Shahjahanpur Amtala Mosque and conducted mass contact activities.

Later, he campaigned in the Agrani Club Ideal Zone and Bank Colony Mosque areas, participating in a procession in support of the "Sheaf of Paddy" symbol.
