CUMILLA, Jan 23, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher today urged the citizens and youth to remain united to safeguard the country's independence and sovereignty.

He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a public meeting organized by Jamaat-e-Islami at the Dhorakara School grounds in the Chiara Union of Chauddagram Upazila under the district.

Addressing the rally as a special guest, Hasnat Abdullah, the Southern Regional Chief Organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP), emphasized the core values of democracy.

He stated that in a democratic state, just as there is freedom of expression, the right to express dissenting opinions must also be ensured.

Focusing on electoral integrity, Jahidul Islam, former Central President of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, stressed the necessity of learning from past experiences.

He urged the government to take legal action against anyone who creates obstacles to the voting process.

The meeting was presided over by prominent industrialist Mohiuddin Bhuiyan Naim and moderated by Mohammad Yusuf.
