CUMILLA, Jan 31, 2026 (BSS) - Hasnat Abdullah, Chief organizer (southern region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and 11-party alliance candidate for Cumilla-4 constituency, today pledged to build his parliamentary area Debidwar as free from drugs and extortion.

“Politics must get rid of the culture of compromise with drug dealers and extortionists,” he said while addressing an election courtyard meeting held at the Ganeshpur Government Primary School ground in Debidwar upazila of the district.

Hasnat said for a long time many influential leaders of Debidwar had been engaged in extortion business with “drug peddlers”.

“This opportunity will no longer be given to anyone. In future, Debidwar will be free from drugs and extortion. To build a safe Debidwar for your children, vote for the Shapla Koli symbol,” he said.

He further said that everyone now has a mobile phone and shares news in various ways—this is called citizen journalism. People no longer trust news from the mainstream media, he said.
He said the responsibility for this lack of trust in the media lies with the media itself.

Addressing the women voters present at the meeting, Hasnat said, “I am contesting  in the election as your son; you will work for me.”

Khelafat Majlis leaders Md. Mujibur Rahman and Md. Mofazzal Hossain, Debidwar Upazila Jamaat Ameer Professor Shahidul Islam, Gunai Ghar South Union Jamaat Ameer Maulana Siddiqur Rahman, and Hafez Maulana Salman Hossain, among others, also spoke.
