DHAKA, Feb 4, 2026 (BSS) – The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has suspended Md. Saifuzzaman, an Executive Engineer (Civil) of the Public Works Department (PWD), on charges of embezzling over Taka 6.31 crore in government funds, abuse of power, and corruption.

According to a notification signed by Ministry Secretary Md Nazrul Islam on Tuesday, Saifuzzaman has been placed under temporary suspension effective from the date of the order. 

He was currently serving as the Executive Engineer (Current Charge) at the Lalmonirhat PWD Division and had previously served at Dhaka PWD Division-4.

The investigation revealed that during his tenure at Dhaka PWD Division-4, Saifuzzaman was involved in irregularities regarding the "Construction of Record Building for the Bangladesh Supreme Court" project. 

He allegedly abused his power by splitting a single civil work package (W-1) into eight separate packages via e-GP without the required approval from the DPP or RDPP or HOPE. 

A total of Taka 631.97 lakh was spent through these eight packages during the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

 However, inspections found that no actual work existed corresponding to the bills paid to eight different contracting firms. While National Development Engineers Limited (NDEL) was the authorized firm for the original W-1 package, the funds were disbursed to other firms without any work being performed, which has been categorized as embezzlement of government funds.

The suspension was issued in accordance with Section 39(1) of the Government Service Act, 2018. 

During the period of his suspension, Md. Saifuzzaman will be entitled to a subsistence allowance as per existing rules.
