
RAJSHAHI, Feb 18, 2026 (BSS) - The authorities of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) have permanently expelled one student and taken disciplinary action against eight others following an investigation report into allegations of harassment of a female student on social media.
The decision was taken based on the findings of a university probe committee, said Professor Dr Md Robiul Islam Sarkar, Member Secretary of the RUET Disciplinary Committee, on Wednesday.
The expelled student has been identified as Suman Majumdar (ID: 2403129), a student of the 2024-25 academic session under the Computer Science and Engineering Department.
According to university sources, disciplinary measures were imposed under Section 6 of RUET's Disciplinary Ordinance after the investigation committee found evidence of sexual harassment.
As per the decision, Suman Majumdar, identified as the main accused, has been permanently expelled from the university.
Eight other students were also punished for their involvement. Of them, three students were expelled for three academic years on charges of assisting the incident, while five others were expelled for one academic year on charges of instigation.
In addition, the eight students have been permanently expelled from their respective residential halls. The university authorities have also decided not to issue character certificates to them.
Director of Student Welfare Professor Dr Robiul Islam Sarkar said ensuring the safety and dignity of all students, particularly female students, remains a top priority for the university.
He said the administration took the allegations seriously immediately after they surfaced and initiated an investigation. Based on the committee's report, disciplinary action was taken accordingly.
He reiterated that RUET maintains a zero-tolerance stance against harassment of female students and such behaviour will not be tolerated on campus.
