Martyrs' Day, International Mother Language Day to be observed in Dinajpur

RANGPUR, Feb 18, 2026 (BSS) - The district administration has taken various programmes to observe the 'Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day, 2026' with due dignity in Dinajpur district.

The daylong observance will begin with placing of wreaths at Dinajpur Central Shaheed Minar in the first hour of February 21 at 12:01 am, a press note issued by the Rangpur Regional PID Office here today.

On the occasion of the day, the national flag will be hoisted at half-mast in all government, semi-government, private, autonomous institutions and private buildings with the sun rise.

Mobile films will be screened at the district and upazila levels in line with the national programmes to celebrate the day at important intersections of the towns, including the premises of the Dinajpur Central Shaheed Minar.

After that, a discussion meeting, cultural programme and prize distribution will be organized at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy auditorium in Dinajpur town at 11:00 am.

Special prayers will be offered in all mosques, temples, churches and other places of worship at convenient times, seeking forgiveness for the souls of the language martyrs and the martyrs of the 2024 mass uprising.

On the occasion of Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day, drawing competitions, rhyme readings, poetry readings and cultural programmes will be organized for children at Bangladesh Shishu Academy and District Shilpakala Academy in Dinajpur from February 1 to February 21, 2026.

In addition, an essay and drawing competition and a discussion on the language movement will be held at the Dinajpur District Government Public Library on the occasion of the day.
