SYLHET, Feb 25, 2026 (BSS) – Newly appointed Administrator of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Abdul Quiyum Choudhury today formally assumed office.

He took charge at the corporation’s office at noon, where outgoing administrator and Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md Reza-un-Nabi handed over the responsibilities to him.

Speaking after assuming office, Quiyum said he aims to build a beautiful and clean city with the cooperation of all.

“Ensuring services for city dwellers will be our main goal. We want to prioritise making the city mosquito-free and maintaining cleanliness,” he said.

He noted that Sylhet is represented by two ministers in the new cabinet — Industries, Commerce, Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury — adding that their cooperation would be sought to ensure maximum services and development for residents.

Earlier, at around 11:30 am, he arrived in Sylhet from Dhaka at Osmani International Airport.

From the airport, he visited the shrines of Hazrat Shah Jalal and Hazrat Shah Paran.

Executive Engineer of the city corporation Rezai Rafin Sarkar, other officials of the corporation, leaders and activists of different political parties, representatives of civil society, and media personnel were present at the responsibility handover ceremony.
