NETRAKONA, Feb 28, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Land Barrister Kayser Kamal today said the sacrifices made by the martyrs of the July Uprising created the opportunity to restore democracy in the country.

"Nearly two thousand July fighters embraced bullets and thousands of students and ordinary people were injured. Without their sacrifice, we could not have gathered here in a free environment," he said.

The state minister made the remarks while addressing a views-exchange meeting with district-level officials at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room in Netrokona.

Referring to July uprising as the most significant democratic movement since the 1971 Liberation War, Kamal said the nation must uphold the ideals of the Liberation War and the spirit of July to build a prosperous "New Bangladesh."

Criticising the national elections held in 2014, 2018 and 2024, he alleged that the absence of effective public participation over the years had weakened accountability in governance and caused stagnation in the administration.

He urged officials to work in close coordination with elected representatives, saying the present government remains accountable to the people and is committed to ensuring improved and people-friendly public services across the country.

Deputy Commissioner Md Saifur Rahman chaired the meeting, which was attended by local Parliament Members and senior district officials.
