KHULNA, March 12, 2026 (BSS) - Heart-rending scenes unfolded at the morgue of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) as Salam Morol repeatedly fainted while mourning the loss of several family members killed in the devastating road accident on the Mongla-Khulna highway today.
Salam Morol, a resident of Naksha village in Koyra upazila, had married off his daughter Marzia Akter Mitu to Sabbir, son of Abdur Razzak of Mongla, the last night.
In the crash, Salam lost two daughters -- Marzia Akter Mitu and Lamia -- as well as his mother Rashida Begum and mother-in-law Anowara Begum. The sudden loss left him almost inconsolable.
Witnesses said Salam repeatedly collapsed in front of the hospital morgue while crying. After regaining consciousness, he looked around helplessly, searching for his loved ones.
Amid the grief-stricken atmosphere, Salam briefly described the events leading up to the tragedy.
He said the wedding ceremony took place around 11pm on Wednesday night amid joy and celebration.
"The whole night passed in happiness. Almost everyone stayed awake celebrating the wedding," he said.
According to him, around 11am on Thursday the newlywed bride left for her destination in a microbus along with other family members, including his other daughter, his mother and his mother-in-law.
"But what happened next? I have no one left now," he said in a broken voice.
Salam said he received a phone call from KMCH in the afternoon informing him about the accident and rushed to the hospital.
"I knew nothing when they started the journey. When I came here, everything was over," he said, repeatedly crying out, "I have no one left... Oh Allah, take me too."
