Govt begins implementing election pledges even before ink of votes dries: Tuku

TANGAIL, March 16, 2026 (BSS)- State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku today said the government has already started implementing its election pledges, initiating various programmes even before the ink of the voters’ nails has dried.

“The government has introduced a Family Card for people as part of its commitment to implement election promises and is taking various initiatives to support farmers even before the ink of voters nail didn’t disappear,” he said. 

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the Rajkhal canal excavation project at Golabari area in Gopalpur Upazila this afternoon.

“Agricultural loans up to TK 10,000 for farmers have already been waived, including interest,” he added.

He also said the Prime Minister will formally inaugurate the Agriculture Card programme at Tangail Stadium on April 14.

Highlighting the government’s initiative to restore rivers and canals across the country, Tuku said a large-scale programme has been undertaken under which more than 20,000 kilometres of rivers and canals will be excavated nationwide.

“As part of this initiative, excavation work has already begun in phases in different districts. The programme has formally started in Tangail district today through the excavation of the Rajkhal canal,” he said.

He added that canals in Tangail District that have been filled up or are on the verge of dying will also be excavated in phases.

Among others, MP for Tangail-2 Md Abdus Salam Pintu, Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar, Executive Engineer of the Bangladesh Water Development Board Main Uddin, officials of various departments and local dignitaries were present at the programme.
