Child killed in Sherpur road accident

SHERPUR, March 16, 2026 (BSS)- A child was killed and four people including his mother and two siblings wounded in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Nakla upazila of the district today.

The deceased, Nazif Hossain, 12, was the son of Police Constable Nazrul Islam of the Masterbari area in Jamalpur Sadar upazila.

The incident occurred this afternoon at the Nakla Kursha Bypass intersection on the Dhaka–Sherpur highway.

According to police and local sources, Narzul’s wife and children were travelling by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw from Mymensingh to Jamalpur. On the way, the auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound bus at the Kursha Bypass intersection, leaving Nazif Hossain dead on the spot.

Nazrul’s wife Suma Akter, their two children Nahid and Nawshin, and the auto-rickshaw driver were seriously injured in the accident.

Among the injured, Suma Akter and Nahid were shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital as their condition was critical. The other two injured were admitted to Nakla Upazila Health Complex.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nakla Police Station Ripon Chandra Gope said the bus has been seized and legal action is underway.
