KHULNA, March 16, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today distributed financial assistance, received from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, among the corporation’s sanitation workers marking the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

Speaking as the chief guest at the distribution ceremony held at Shaheed Altaf Auditorium of Nagar Bhaban in the afternoon, Manju said the Prime Minister is working to fulfill the expectations of the people.

He said the government has already introduced several welfare initiatives, including distribution of family cards and bringing imams, muazzins and other people associated with religious institutions under allowance programmes.

“The Prime Minister will gradually implement his pre-election commitments such as farmer cards and health cards,” he added.

Manju said the Prime Minister, while assigning him the responsibility of KCC, emphasised turning metropolitan cities into clean, dust-free and mosquito-free safe urban centres.

He noted that the financial assistance was introduced to encourage sanitation workers who are directly involved in maintaining cleanliness at the field level.

Mentioning that existing problems of Khulna city have already been placed before the Prime Minister, the KCC administrator said the government has taken initiatives to build a “new Bangladesh”.

He also expressed hope that Khulna metropolis would be developed in a new way by building a corruption and waste-free city corporation with cooperation from all.

A total of 728 sanitation workers received Tk 5,000 each as Eid gift, amounting to Tk 36.4 lakh.

KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed presided over the function. Among others, Secretary Ariful Islam, Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Chief Waste Management Officer and Executive Magistrate Kohinur Jahan, Chief Health Officer Dr. Sharif Shammiyul Islam and other officials were present.
