Life sketch of Industries and Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir

DHAKA, April 12, 2026 (BSS) – Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, MP, a distinguished industrialist and politician who has made significant contribution in the industrial sector and politics as well.

His leadership quality along with skilled expertise in the business and industrial sector have established him as a respected and influential figure in the country, said an official handout here today.

After born on 25 September 1969 in Sylhet into a distinguished Muslim family, Khandakar Abdul Muktadir completed his secondary education at Sylhet Cadet College and higher secondary education at Dhaka City College. 

He is a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Social Science in Political Science from the National University. He also obtained an MBA degree from North South University.

His father, Late Khandakar Abdul Malik, was a founding member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Sylhet and served in various key positions in the central committee, including Secretary for Industries, Adviser, and Vice Chairman.  His mother is Rowshan Ara Chowdhury.

His father was elected Member of Parliament three times from the then Sylhet-8 (Now Sylhet-1) constituency. 

He contested the 11th National Parliamentary Election in 2018 as a BNP-nominated candidate from the 229 Sylhet-1 constituency and he was elected as a Member of Parliament from the same constituency in the 13th National Parliamentary Election held in 2026.

On 17 February 2026, he has been appointed as the Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Textiles & Jute in the cabinet led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Alongside his political career, Khandakar Abdul Muktadir is a well-established figure in Bangladesh's business and industrial sector.

He served as President of the Bangladesh Terry Towel and Linen Manufacturers & Exporters Association, Director of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Director of the Turkey-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry. 

In his personal life, Khandakar Abdul Muktadir is the father of one son and one daughter.
