CHATTOGRAM, April 12, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) is currently building 38 foot overbridges to ease movement of the city dwellers and reduce congestion.

CCC Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain shared this information during a foundation stone laying ceremony of a foot overbridge in the New Mansurabad area of Uttar Kattali of the city today.

Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain said the bridges will be constructed as part of the 'Airport Road Expansion, Various Roads, and Important Infrastructure Development Project' aimed at ensuring safe pedestrian crossings on busy roads.

He said that four foot overbridges have been completed under the project, with construction of 15 more in progress and tender processes for 17 others underway.

The mayor mentioned plans for an additional eight foot overbridges at key locations in the future. He also highlighted that the foot overbridges will contribute to reducing road accidents and traffic congestion, promoting urban safety and development.

The New Mansurabad foot overbridge is being built at a cost of approximately Tk 1.56 crore. It will be 31.5 meters in length, 3 meters in width, and equipped with stairs on both sides.

The mayor emphasized the bridge's significance due to its proximity to the AK Khan Gate on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, making it convenient for long-distance travelers, locals, and students to cross safely. Residents of Uttar Kattali and Uttar Pahartali areas will particularly benefit from the infrastructure.

Dr Shahadat expressed commitment to creating a secure environment through well-planned infrastructure.

Senior City Corporation officials, engineers, public representatives, and local residents attended the event.
