BSEC awards winners of financial literacy short film competition

DHAKA, April 12, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) held a prize distribution ceremony today for its "Financial Knowledge-Based Short Film Competition" at the BSEC Multipurpose Hall in the capital. 

The initiative was aimed at enhancing financial literacy and awareness among the younger generation, specifically university students, said a press release.

BSEC Commissioner Dr. Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed, who attended as the chief guest, emphasized that there is no substitute for proper financial knowledge and awareness to build a healthy, stable, and sustainable capital market. 

He highlighted that the competition was organized to encourage students to understand and contribute to the country's economic landscape.

The competition saw participation from 42 teams representing 22 universities across Bangladesh. Out of the submissions, 20 short films were selected for the final stage across three categories: "Good Capital Market and Prosperous Economy," "Capital Market Risks," and "Increasing Awareness about Financial Literacy".

In the category of "Good Capital Market and Prosperous Economy," the team "New Bangladesh" from Hamdard University Bangladesh secured the first prize. 

In the "Capital Market Risks" category, "Shwapno" from IBA, University of Dhaka won the first prize, followed by "CINE ART" from Jahangirnagar University in second place, and "DU Finance" from the University of Dhaka in third. 

For the "Prosperous Economy" (Financial Literacy Awareness) category, "The Blind Men" from Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University took the top spot. 

"Akatsuki" from Brac University and "Information Scorpion" from the Bangladesh University of Professionals won the second and third prizes respectively.

The winners of the first, second, and third prizes received TK 60,000, TK 45,000, and TK 30,000 respectively, along with crests and certificates. Additionally, 10 teams were awarded consolation prizes of TK 15,000 each, including teams from the University of Rajshahi and BRAC University.

Executive Director and BSEC Spokesperson Mohammad Rezaul Karim expressed his gratitude to the participants and noted that the winning films would be used for nationwide financial awareness campaigns via social media and television. 

Other speakers at the event included jury members Zulfiqer Ali Manik, Deputy Editor of Daily Amader Shomoy, and Khairul Basher, Director of Communications at BRAC University, who both praised the creativity and social relevance of the students' work.
