BAGERHAT, May 12, 2026 (BSS) - The upazila administration has removed an illegal earthen embankment from an important canal in the Nalua-Paranpur area of Chitalmari upazila in Bagerhat.

The eviction drive was conducted around 11 am today under the leadership of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khadija Akhter.

According to local sources, the embankment obstructed the natural flow of the canal, disrupting irrigation and causing waterlogging and water shortages in surrounding agricultural lands.

Following complaints from locals, the administration inspected the site and carried out the eviction drive, removing the illegal structure.

Locals welcomed the initiative, saying it helped restore normal water flow and ease long-standing water-related problems.

The upazila administration said regular monitoring would continue to prevent encroachment on canals and water bodies.
