Dhaka condemns Israeli attack in Lebanon killing 2 Bangladeshis

DHAKA, May 12, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh today strongly condemned an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon that killed two Bangladeshi nationals, expressing profound grief and taking steps for the early repatriation of their mortal remains.

"Bangladesh condemned in the strongest possible terms the attack by Israeli forces that claimed the lives of two Bangladeshi nationals in southern Lebanon yesterday," said the foreign ministry in a press released today. 

The deceased were identified as Shafiqul Islam of Satkhira Sadar and Md. Nahidul Islam Nahid of Ashashuni in Satkhira.

The government expressed its profound grief and deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the victims.

It said the Embassy of Bangladesh in Lebanon is working with the relevant local authorities to complete necessary formalities for the repatriation of the mortal remains and maintaining contact with the family members of the deceased.

Bangladesh also reiterated its deep concern over the continuing violence and loss of civilian lives in the region and called for maximum restraint and adherence to international humanitarian law.
