
DHAKA, May 12, 2026 (BSS) - Police arrested three alleged top snatchers after officers came under attack during a joint drive in the capital's Mohammadpur area on Monday morning.
The arrestees were identified as Md Palash Sarkar alias Palash, 29, Sakib Sarkar alias Sakib, 20, and Biplob Hossain, 31.
According to Dhanmondi Police Station, a joint team of Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur police conducted the operation around 6:30 am yesterday in the Town Hall area based on information that suspects in a robbery case were staying there, Sensing police presence, the suspects allegedly attacked officers with local weapons, said a press release issued today.
Sub Inspector (SI) Md Saiful Alam was seriously injured after Palash struck him with a Chinese axe, while Sakib allegedly attempted to attack him with a machete.
In this operation, Police fired four rounds in self-defense, leaving Sakib bullet-hit in his left foot.
Police later arrested the three suspects, while several unnamed accomplices fled the scene.
During the drive, police recovered a Chinese axe, a machete, two knives, a folding knife, a toy pistol, eight mobile phones and a motorcycle.
Police said Palash is accused in multiple cases, including a murder case filed with Tongi East Police Station.
Legal action against the arrestee is underway, the release added.
