BCL leader held over July Uprising killing in Mugda

DHAKA, Apr 12, 2026 (BSS) — Police have arrested a leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) for his suspected link to a July Uprising murder case from the capital’s Mugda area.

The detainee has been identified as Al-Amin Majumdar (29), Vice president of Government Bangla College unit of the BCL, according to a police press release.  

The arrest was carried out by Mugda Police Station during a raid in the Bashar Tower area under Mugda Police Station around 11:50 pm on Saturday. 

According to police sources, the suspect is accused of involvement in the killing of one Mizanur Rahman during the turmoil in mid-2024 last .

 Investigators allege that he actively participated in political programmes and processions at the time and was present with other leaders and activists, reportedly armed, during an attack on student protesters near Sathi Digital Studio in Mugda area.
