
RAJSHAHI, April 16, 2026 (BSS) - Canal excavation works have been inaugurated in Puthia of Rajshahi and Raninagar, aimed at improving water management.
In Puthia Upazila, excavation work from Nandanpur Mora Sandhya River to Bilkanta Hoja River in Bhalukgachhi Union was formally launched by local Member of Parliament Professor Nazrul Islam Mondol.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Wednesday, was presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Liaquat Salman.
Upazila Project Implementation Officer Mahbuba Akter, former Upazila Chairman Anwar Hossain Jummo and Union Parishad member Masudul Hasan Milon among others, were present.
On the same day, another canal excavation project was inaugurated in Raninagar Upazila. The work, stretching from Deula-Bargachha Bridge to Malson Girigram, is being implemented at a cost of BDT 38.27 lakh.
Local Member of Parliament SM Rezaul Islam attended the event as the chief guest.
The project is being carried out under the Employment Generation Programme for the Poorest (EGPP) of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, as part of efforts to fulfill the Prime Minister's election commitments.
The programme was organised by the upazila administration and the local disaster management office, with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rakibul Hasan in the chair.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nabila Yasmin, Officer-in-Charge of Raninagar Police Station Zakaria Mondol, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Nazrul Islam and Upazila BNP President Eshaq Ali, among others, were also present at the event.
