Shrimp larvae worth Tk 6 crore seized in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, April 17, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Coast Guard seized a large consignment of shrimp larvae worth an estimated Tk 6 crore in Karnaphuli upazila and released them into the Karnaphuli River.

Coast Guard East Zone Media Officer Suman Al Mukit confirmed the matter today.

The seizure was made during a special operation conducted around 1:00 am on Thursday near Shah Amanat Bridge in Karnaphuli upazila.

According to Coast Guard sources, personnel intercepted and searched two suspicious trucks travelling from Teknaf to Khulna. During the operation, they recovered approximately 1.2 crore illegal shrimp larvae.

The estimated market value of the seized larvae is around Tk 6 crore.

The truck drivers and their helpers were released after providing bonds, the Coast Guard official said.

Later, the recovered shrimp larvae were released into the Karnaphuli River in the presence of the Upazila Fisheries Officer.
