DHAKA, April 20, 2026 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today granted a three-day fresh remand to former DGFI director and dismissed Lieutenant Colonel Md Afzal Naser in a case lodged over the killing of one Delwar Hossain during the July Mass Uprising, 2024.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place him on a five-day remand in the case.

Earlier on April 17, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam had placed Afzal Naser on a three-day remand for the first time in the case.

A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Afzal Naser from his residence in Mirpur DOHS on March 30, 2026.

According to the case documents, Delwar Hossain joined an anti-discrimination student movement rally on July 19, 2024, in front of a fruit market in the Mirpur-10 area.

The rally came under attack from the unidentified goons, firing shots indiscriminately at the protesters.

Delwar got shot and was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 21.  Delwar's widow, Liza Akter, filed the case on July 6, 2025, over the incident.
