Prosecution closes indictment hearing in July atrocities case against Shamim Osman, others

DHAKA, April 19, 2026 (BSS) - The prosecution at International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) today concluded its arguments on charge framing in a crimes against humanity case against former lawmaker Shamim Osman and 11 others over atrocities in Narayanganj during the July Mass Uprising.
 
During the hearing, the prosecution placed arguments detailing the complicity of the accused in the crimes, in which 10 people were killed in Fatullah and Signboard areas of Narayanganj on July 19, 21 and August 5, 2024.
 
Following the completion of the prosecution's arguments, ICT-1 Chairman Justice Golam Mortuza Mazumder adjourned the hearing untill April 23, when the defence is scheduled to place its arguments seeking discharge of the accused.
 
Other prominent accused in the case include Shamim's son Ayan Osman, his nephew Azmeri Osman, Ayan's brother-in-law Minhaj Uddin Ahmed Diki, and Shamim's brother-in-law Tanvir Ahmed Titu.
 
The prosecution on January 19, 2026, submitted the formal charge in the case. The tribunal, after taking the charges into cognisance, issued arrest warrants against the accused.
