DHAKA, April 21, 2026 (BSS) - A mild earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale was felt in the capital Dhaka and several other parts of the country early today, causing brief tremors but no immediate reports of damage.

According to the Seismic Observatory and Research Centre of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the tremor occurred at 6:29:36 am. The epicentre was located in Manipur state of India, around 436 kilometres from Dhaka.

The tremor was felt in Dhaka and various other regions across the country, though it lasted only for a short time.

Deputy Director of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department Md. Rubaiyat Kabir told BSS that the earthquake was moderate and its epicentre being far from Dhaka reduces the risk of impact.

"There is no reason for alarm and no reports of damage have been received so far," he said.
