DHAKA, April 22, 2026 (BSS) – State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shaikh Faridul Islam today said implementation work of the ‘Waste to Energy’ project will begin soon at the Aminbazar landfill area in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital city.

“The project has been given the highest priority to address the growing waste management crisis and environmental pollution in Savar and Dhaka North City Corporation areas,” he said while visiting the Aminbazar landfill.

During the visit, senior officials of the ministry, project officials and representatives of China Machinery Engineering Corporation were present, said an official handout.

Noting that the severe stench and pollution caused by long-accumulated waste have disrupted local life, Faridul emphasised taking quick and effective measures to resolve the problem.

He further said that the project, which began in 2021, was delayed due to various complexities.

However, the state minister said, initiatives have been taken to resolve these complexities through swift intervention by this government.

“Work is underway to amend the Air Pollution (Control) Rules-2022 and the Solid Waste Management Rules-2021,” he added.

Faridul said that the project is being implemented in line with the ‘Bangladesh First’ policy of the present government.

He expressed hope that this project will play an important role as part of the ‘Green Dhaka, Clean City’ initiative to transform Dhaka into a livable and pollution-free city.
